Today, April 12, 2013, marks the day that Facebook launched its brand new app “Facebook Home” for download on Google Play. Facebook has invested a lot of time and resources to developing this new software, even going so far as hiring a top interior designer to ensure that it is as visually appealing as it is functional.
What is Facebook Home?
Facebook Home is a new homescreen strategy developed by the company. Once downloaded from the Google Play store, this app switches the function of your smartphone from one which is primarily a phone which makes calls and happens to have access to Facebook, to a device which runs around Facebook 24/7 with the option to use the other functions (phone, texting, etcetera). Today, Facebook also launched the first smartphone, the HTC “First” (available for $99 only from AT&T), which has Facebook Home built into it as the dominant homescreen strategy.
How do I get Facebook Home?
In its initial launch, Facebook Home is not yet available for all Android phones. So far, Facebook has managed to release their new app for the following devices now available on Google Play:
- Samsung GALAXY S4
- Samsung GALAXY S3
- HTC One X
- HTC One (not to be confused with the new HTC “First” launched today)
What are some of the features that Facebook Home has to offer?
- Cover Feed (where your Friend’s updates and images are highlighted across the entire screen of your phone)
- Chat Heads (an extensive chat feature)
- Instant notifications (see who comments in real time)
- …many more.
